Myak - Fior di Lino

Fior di Lino means flax flower in Italian — which feels like a happy accident for a shop called Flax and Fiber, but it was purely intentional.  We knew we wanted a beautiful linen yarn to be a staple in the shop, and mYak is one of Michelle's favorite yarn  companies (read more about it below)!

What our yarn tasters thought: "soft" came up more than anything else, one describing it as soft and snuggly, like holding a soft stuffed animal. A couple of tasters noticed it feels firmer straight off the skein; that's just how linen behaves before its first wash, and it softens up considerably afterward, so don't judge it too early.

mYak is a cooperative with hundreds of nomadic herding families on the Tibetan Plateau, working in one of the region's poorer areas on purpose, so the business actually means something to the people raising the fiber. Baby yaks aren't sheared — their down is combed out by hand after their first winter, right when it would naturally come loose anyway. Born in Tibet, spun into yarn in Italy, and softer than you'd believe. We carry several of their yarns in the shop — come feel one for yourself.
