Details
Ever heard knitters talk about “turning a heel” like it’s some kind of dark magic? It’s not — and by the end of this three-class series, you’ll have turned your first heel and be well on your way to a finished pair of socks!
Sarah will guide you through your first pair of socks from cuff to toe over three Sunday sessions, tackling one step at a time: starting the sock, turning the heel, and the dreaded Kitchener stitch to close the toe.
Each class builds on the skills from the previous session, so plan to attend all three.
When: Sundays, 10am–12pm
- Oct. 4: Starting the Sock — casting on and working in the round
- Oct. 11: Turning the Heel — shaping the heel and learning the techniques that make socks fit.
- Note: There is no class on Oct. 18.
-
Oct. 25: Finishing the Sock — shaping the toe, Kitchener stitch, and weaving in ends
Experience Level: Confident Beginner
Skills Needed: Comfortable knitting and purling
What You’ll Learn:
- Casting on and knitting in the round
- Sock construction and shaping
- Turning a heel
- Shaping the toe
- Kitchener stitch
- Weaving in ends
Materials Needed - Purchase Separately:
- One skein of sock-weight yarn (fingering weight, approximately 400 yards)
- US Size 1 knitting needles in your preferred style. We recommend short circular needles, though DPNs also work. You will need DPNs to complete the toe.
Materials can be purchased at the shop before class. Please purchase your yarn early so we have time to wind it for you! You’ll also earn 200 extra loyalty points when you purchase your class yarn from us.
Bring the same needles and yarn to all three sessions — this is one project built across three class sessions.
What if I can't make it?
We understand that things come up! All class fees are non-refundable, however, they can be partially applied to a different session or a different future class.
