Mosaic Crochet Coasters

Mosaic crochet gets you a bold, graphic, multi-color look using only one color at a time — no juggling or carrying yarn. The resulting pattern just looks complex, which is exactly why it's so satisfying.

Tristen will walk you through the technique from the ground up: how mosaic patterns are built row by row, where to work into stitches versus skip past them, and how to read a mosaic chart as you go. You'll practice on a set of coasters — a perfect small, fast project for trying the technique before committing it to something bigger like a blanket or bag.

When: Thursday, Oct 15, 6:00–8:00pm

Materials Needed: We will provide two contrasting colors of Noble Cotton (select your choice), included in the cost of the class.  You will need to bring a crochet hook [Size 3.0mm] (or this can be purchased at the shop).

Experience Level: Adventurous beginner — you should be comfortable with basic single and double crochet, and working in rows.

Skills Needed: starting chain, single crochet, double crochet

Skills Learned:

• Read a mosaic crochet chart
• Create colorwork designs by working with one color at a time
• Alternate single/double crochet to create the mosaic look
• How to keep tension even when using different stitches in the same row
• Finish projects with an envelope border to avoid weaving in ends

Once you've got the hang of mosaic crochet, the same technique scales up beautifully —try pillows, bags, and blankets!
